Why You Don’t and Will Never Make Any Money Online

Everyone wants to be the next John Chow, making tens of thousands of dollars a month and living the dot Com lifestyle, but how many people do you personally know that actually do?

Is it that John Chow and other Internet celebrities posses secret unknown powers that give them the ability to do things that we can’t? Or maybe the idea of making a living online is just another fantasy that pops into our minds every now and then, and that everyone else who makes a living online just so happened to have luck on their sides.

I hate to break it to you, but no, you don’t need secret powers or an Encyclopedic knowledge to making a living online, the secret is actually something much more simple than that…

Start taking action.

Yes, no matter how obvious it might seem, the true secret of making a living online and being successful at everything else in life is to start taking action.

A few weeks ago, I was the type of person that would read about some awesome new method that could make me thousands, think about it for a few minutes, then forget about it and move on to the next one. I continuously made up excuses that the method was too hard, or that it might not work, and that I had no time to do it, I was wasting hours and hours of my time everyday doing nothing. Then one bright summer day, I finally decided that I was going to start taking a new path, I was going to start taking action.

In my opinion, procrastination is one of the worst things a human being could possible get addicted to. It is the act of postponing things, telling yourself that “You will do it tomorrow”, only for the next day and the day after to come with nothing being done. Do you know who procrastinates? Losers. Yes, they keep telling themselves that the perfect day will eventually come and when it does they will start working on all their goals and making all their dreams come true. Yet that day never comes, and all their dreams remain nothing but dreams.

Setting goals and a time frame to complete those goals is one of the most effective ways to deal with procrastination. When you set yourself a goal and a time limit, you start to have clear path of what you need to do and when it needs to be done. If you want to make $10,000 this month, then you know that you can’t afford to stay in bed the whole day and not work.

Do you think that all the billionaires out there made their fortunes by staying in bed and wishing for the best? No. They got up to work everyday and faced hundreds of problems but eventually overcame them to finally reach where they are now.

It’s OK not to reach your goals when you have tried your best to do so, but that doesn’t mean you can play games for the whole day and then cry about not getting anything done.

Another reason why you don’t make any money online is because you always listen to what others say. You believe the so called “Internet gurus” when they say that making money online is only for certain people with a certain knowledge… bla bla bla. Stop listening to other people tell you what you can and can’t do! All that will do is depress you and prevent you from ever reaching your goals. Start experimenting to see what will and won’t work for you, then make up your mind on whether you would like to continue doing it or not.

All these points above don’t just apply to making money online, but to anything in life. If you want to lose 10Kg this month, then watching TV and eating ice cream for the whole day definitely won’t be help you achieve that. And don’t try fooling yourself into thinking that tomorrow will be the beginning of a fresh start, there’s no time like now, so get cracking!

I hope this has been extra boost of motivation you’ve always needed to get you started :) As I am writing this, there are already a few things I plan on changing and putting into action, hopefully the same goes for you ;)

As for the rest of you that are already making money online, what are some of the things that help keep you motivated and help you in achieving your goals?

  1. This is a really great post. I decided to take action and build my blog and put a lot of time and effort into it even though it is bringing in just a really small return at the moment.
What have you decided to do with those things you can make money online from?
Please tell me a specific example. I want to see you take action not just talk about it :-)
You can’t fake it to make it

    Hey Ryan,
I have also been receiving a really tiny return considering the time I spend on this blog, but I believe that all blogs start out this way. Haha, of course :)

Well, one of the main things I did was start this blog, I was trying to postpone doing that as much as possible, but one day I finally started it. Another I recently did is selling links on a WordPress theme I made, nothing big, but the necessary steps that will lead to bigger success. As for all the others ways, I still haven’t started with them, yet. That’s what I was planning to change as you read at the end of my article

  3. Hey Rajaie,

    Great post from you. :)

You need to work to earn anything, be it money, respect or similar. However, if you work smart, it’ll become easier! :)

  4. This post reminds me of another great motivational speech given by one of the immortals of the silver screen:
“Do or do not, there is not try” Yoda

We can all take a little something from that. In Empire Luke really becomes someone by running head on into danger. He ignores the expert (Yoda) and makes a choice to get things done. Ultimately it pays off even though Luke gets frozen in Carbonite.

Sorry about the analogy but I was just struck by it.

  5. Hey Rajaie,

I stumbled upon your blog, and I think it’s great! This post in particular got me thinking. I’m definitely the type of person to take action – started a blog for social change (and more to come!), getting ready to incorporate my social initiative into a nonprofit org, marketing my professional services…and blah blah blah.

But one thing I have noticed is that procrastination, while it can be a horrible habit to get into – it can also be a huge motivator. I’ve overcome it – not entirely I must say but I’m working on it – and try to help others do the same. Self discipline and will power in my opinion are the keys to overcoming procrastination. People can talk themselves into anything but if you keep pushing forward and stand up in the face of adversity (even if that adversity is your own wrong doing), you’ll come out on top! Great blog. Keep it up.

    All the best!

  6. Success is a mind game , you have to see yourself as a winner before you actually win the game…Action or the work you do is will determine your level of success. There are no short cuts to this

  7. Totally Rajaie… I mean the thing here is that everyone has always need to dive in and learn and get an experience… There’s no single ebook or thing or products that could make you a hundred dollars with very little work… I know many people who wants to make money online are young (like you and me ;-) ) so its really not as easy as what Kids think…

  8. and man I forgot to read your last paragraph… What exactly motivates me to make more money? PRIDE… I a pridey person and you know I think my pride drives me to work harder…

  9. by Rajaie AlKorani at 11:24 am on 10/09/08

    Hey Swastik,
You just reminded me of Jim’s eBook, Work Smart, Get Rich. It’s true, if you continue to work blindly without an effective plan in mind, you will be better off not working at all.

    Hey Graham,
That is a pretty weird analogy, but I guess that it does get the point across :P

    Hey Chanelle,
I never really thought that procrastination could possibly be a motivator, but now that I think of it, I believe that you are %100 correct. If you look at it from a certain point of view, the urge to beat procrastination is what keeps most people going everyday.

Thank you for your kind words, it’s always the comments like yours that put a smile on my face :)

    Hey WebTrafficROI,
People that think that you don’t need to work to be successful definitely have no idea what they’re in for! One of my favorite statements of all time “No pain, no gain”

    Hey Melvin,
I agree. People always buy the eBooks with hyped up titles promising them thousands of dollars a week and then when they find out that they actually need to work to achieve that level of income, they just move on to the next method.

A lot of my friends think that all you need to do to make money from a website is add some fancy games, funny pictures, a few videos, and watch the thousands start rolling in. They don’t understand that it takes much more than that.

Pride, that’s interesting. Usually people are motivated by money or some other similar thing, but I never really thought of pride acting as a motivator.

  10. This is a little bit of a tacky saying but I really like it because it is funny and true. If you think it is obscene go ahead a remove it.

Procrastination is like masturbation it feels good but in the end your are only f***ing yourself.

Amazing post. This really is true, for some time I wrote posts hoping that people would just start flocking to my blog, but now I have set goals and are taking them seriously.

Making money online is like any career you choose and you will never get ahead unless you do the work.

    Adam

  11. by Rajaie AlKorani at 5:41 pm on 10/09/08

    Hey Adam,
    That’s an interesting saying….

Setting goals is always important, that way you will actually be working toward something in specific rather than just working blindly. You’re right about treating the “make money online” industry as a career, without working you will fail.

  12. Hmm… I should admit that I do not really work hard to make money out of the blog – probably because it’s more of a pastime for me to help others with whatever I know. Same goes with my offline activities such as stock, fund tips to friends etc.

As of now my income is from my main job (software industry), however if the blog income increase to a considerable level (at least one fifth of John Chow’s), I might quit my programming job and concentrate more on moneymaking via blog :D Probably, then I will be more motivated…

    Great post anyway…

    Cheers,
    Ajith

    Hey Ajith,
Working hard has a different meaning for different people, for me it is getting out of my comfort zone and pushing myself to a limit, knowing that I will eventually be rewarded. 1/5th of John Chow’s income is…. $7,000. I wouldn’t mind 1/30th of his income, hehehe :)

  14. Agree..

But all procastinating ppl are losers :o ?

LOL I do ignore lot of things in life.. I am not a loser or a winner.. I truly believe in taking actions..

    Good post buddy!

  15. by Rajaie AlKorani at 7:54 pm on 10/09/08

    Hey Sid,
What I meant was that they are only losers if they don’t decide to do anything about and live with it.

  16. Hi Rajaie

What a motivational posts. Currently my efforts aren’t being spent making money online, but I do know in order to do so, a person must have the drive, determination and persistence you speak of.

  17. by Rajaie AlKorani at 1:01 pm on 11/09/08

    Hey Barbara,
It’s weird you haven’t joined the whole “make money online” craze, but then again blogging isn’t all about making money.

  18. As for the rest of you that are already making money online, what are some of the things that help keep you motivated and help you in achieving your goals?

Seeing my baby and knowing that someday Ill be spending more time with him and his mom is enough motivation for me to continue blogging so that I could quit my 8-5 routine work. I also set a target in terms of my earnings and everytime I hit my target, it gives me that satisfaction money can’t buy.

    Great post!

  19. by Rajaie AlKorani at 10:38 am on 12/09/08

    Hey Sam,
That’s a nice goal, I don’t often see many people setting long term goals, keep it up! :)

  20. What keeps me motivated? Well, I think it’s my goal of being a millionaire (in my currency of course), not counting the money that my parents give me, before I reach 18. :)

  21. by Rajaie AlKorani at 12:25 pm on 13/09/08

    Hey Lucas,
Being a millionaire before 18, that is pretty difficult goal, nevertheless, good luck!

  22. This is the best post that I’ve read today.

I agree with you 110%. Knowledge is useless unless put into action. This applies not only in making money online but also in blogging. You’re not going to make your blog big by thinking about writing a killer post tomorrow. Because tomorrow never comes. I’m going to do a post about it on my blog. Thank you for the inspiration.

  23. I just read your post and got the inspiration to do a good link bait.

    Thank you Rajaie! :)

  24. by Rajaie AlKorani at 3:37 pm on 14/09/08

    Hey Ganesh,
I’m glad the I could inspire you, heading over to your blog to check out the post right now!

  25. Hey really its bit foolish to think of writting killer posts every day.I agree wit you rajaie

  26. Action always speaks louder than words and even delivers results. Procrastination never helped anyone. Good post and keep it coming.

  27. by Rajaie AlKorani at 9:58 am on 28/09/08

Harish – Ya, nobody wants to read the best post ever… every single day

moserw – As I like to say, “Walk the walk, don’t talk the talk”, or something like that :P

  28. stop listening. Its depend on some people. Not all people can do like what others person did. We have different abilities and method. Just choose which one you like.

  29. Great point. Most people won’t make any significant money online, but it is least worth a shot. It’s what I’ve been doing recently. It takes a lot of work, but I’m not giving up yet.

  30. You have brought up the main point that action is what will drive one’s results, and that reading numerous sources on how to get those results is are not as beneficial as going towards the results on one’s own.

  31. Good article.. But I there is nothing mentioned to make money online.. haaa .
